Our History
The School of Dispensing Opticianry (SDO) was established as part of the Institute of Health Sciences and Technology at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, to address the growing need for skilled eye care professionals in the North-East region of Nigeria.
Since its inception, the school has grown to become a leading centre for ophthalmic education, producing hundreds of graduates who are making significant contributions to eye care delivery across Nigeria. Our graduates are employed in hospitals, optical establishments, and community health programmes throughout the country.
The school is fully accredited by the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) and offers the National Diploma in Dispensing Opticianry (NDDO) programme.
